Professor Americo Scotti visits the Smart Manufacturing Lab
The Smart Manufacturing Lab welcomed internationally renowned researcher Americo Scotti last week. During his visit, funded by the EU’s Erasmus+ program, Professor Scotti delivered a masterclass to PhD students and researchers at the UCA-SEA Innovation Center. The lecture was titled “A Critical View on ‘Heat Input’: Real Meaning, Measurement Limitations, and Consequences of Its Misuse”. During the event, our researchers also presented the latest results of their work on Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM).
During his stay, Scotti also delivered masterclasses to third-year students of the Mechanical Engineering Degree at the Higher Technical School of Engineering in Algeciras. The lessons focused on the fundamentals of metal additive manufacturing using Directed Energy Deposition (DED) methods, as well as the design of paths for complex models.
Prof. Dr. Americo Scotti is a mechanical engineer and holds a PhD in Welding Technology from Cranfield University (UK). He is an emeritus professor at the Swedish university Högskolan Väst and the Federal University of Uberlândia in Brazil. He is the author of over 200 scientific articles published in high-impact international journals, six books, and six patents. He has supervised 20 doctoral theses. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards, including the Yoshiaki Arata Award from the Japan Welding Engineering Society for his contributions to the advancement of welding engineering.
